Triggering factors for TMD are:
  • Improper bite (the way our teeth close together)

  • Clenching of jaw muscles during anger bursts

  • Deformation of jaws or teeth
Common signs and symptoms of TMD are:
  • Pain and tenderness on one or both sides of jaw muscles
  • Inability to open mouth properly
  • Pain during chewing food
  • Wear facets on the edges and front of teeth due to grinding teeth at night

  • Pain radiating to the neck, shoulder and back

An Appliance called Mouthguard is advised for all children and teens who engage in sports and other activities to protect their jaws and teeth. It can be fabricated in our office.
